the opening of the virtual branch in the municipal establishment of culture “The Library of the Vyborg’s region”
On 2 April, 2010 the 65th information and educational centre “The Russian Museum: the virtual branch” was opened on the basis of the municipal establishment of culture “The Library of the Vyborg’s region”. It will be the first branch in the Leningrad region on the basis of the public library and the 50th centre in Russia.
The Library established in 2006 offers the visitors the wide range of editions – books, journals, newspapers along with electronic editions and supplies the access to the Internet resources. The Library performs the function of coordinating and methodological centre for 49th public libraries of the municipal union “The Vyborg region” of the Leningrad region working both with adults and children. The Library is a member of the all-Russian corporate project “ The virtual reference service of public libraries”.
On the basis of the library there is the system of improvement of professional skills for librarians of the region, seminars, workshops and trainings are held. The specialists of the Library are carrying out the work of forming the electronic catalogue, develpoing electronic presentations and elecronic book exhibitions, implementing into the work of the library the process of electronic book delivery.
The project “The Russian Museum: the virtual branch” that is planned to be the electronic analogue of the collection of the Russian Museum will give a possibility to widen the librarie’s activities. The Library started realizing this project in 2008 having won the grant of the Governor of the Leningrad region in the contest of professional mastery “A star of culture”.
The methodological and bibliographical department and the department of working with chidren have studied the programs created by the Russian Centre of museum’s pedagogy and children’s creative work of the Russian Museum. The librarians have developed classes for the school children : “Art of book illustration” and “Kalevala. Karelian and Finnish epic”.
