Drawing room of Catherine I
Drawing room of Catherine IThe name of the room is nominal (historical data on its purpose are missing). The walls are draped with crimson cloth recreated after the samples of the early 18th century and decorated with mirrors and wall luminaries reflecting candlelight. Doors, wall panels and window frames are made of oak. The ceiling is decorated with a picturesque plafond – The Triumph of Catherine I – created by a well-known painter Georg Gsell in the early 18th century. The innovation was in combination of a fireplace and a stove in the corner of the room. |
