The Summer Palace

The Green Study retains its original decoration. The walls are decorated with wooden panels by the Russian painters of 1713-1714 inframed in profiled pilasters and golden column caps The mirrors inserted in the upper wall panels and above the fireplace expand the space of the small Green Study.

A picturesque plafond glorifies Catherine’s rule and oval wall medallions allegorically represent the four cardinal points: Europe, Asia, Africa and America. Built-in closets display first exhibits of Peter’s collection, which he bought in Holland in 1717. The collection consists of Oriental household objects. Walnut chairs created by English craftsmen in the early 18th century complement the exposition of the Green Study.
