Second Reception room
Second Reception roomThe tsar used to receive visitors in this room. Original panels, doors and blinds of the Petrine time are made of oak. There is a picturesque plafond on the ceiling made by Georg Gsell in 1719 – The Triumph of Russia. The plafond allegorically glorifies the power of monarchy and the might of Russia. The walls are decorated with portraits of statesmen-supporters of Peter the Great: Alexander Menshikov, Pavel Jaguzhinsky, Pyotr Shafirov, Fyodor Romodanovsky, Boris Sheremetev, Pyotr Tolstoy, Fyodor Apraksin. The armchairs and chairs draped with Spanish printed leather were made in Portugal. |
