It is one of the unique premises of the Summer Palace. The floor paved with stone has remained since the early 18th century. The walls and the draft hood above the stove are faced with ceramic cobalt-painted tiles, which have also remained since the early 18th century. There are brass and tin kitchen utensils, cooking bowels, steelyard and bobs onthe stove. There is a black marble washbasin in the corner. It is a sample of the first flushing plumbing in Russia. The water-carrying car that was also supplying the fountains of the Summer Garden would bring water for a tank above the washbasin. The original pine cooking-table of the 18th century was used for carving food; its closed lower part served as food storage space.
